the story of stuff + over consumption

My new mantra in 2011.
The more you know, the less you need. And facilitating this sometimes scary knowledge is the amazing Annie Leonard and The Story of Stuff, which I linked to eons ago. That said, it’s time to give a shout out to these incredibly informative videos. To make us more aware of how big our footprints on the planet are even when we are conscious and trying to make them smaller. Cuz sometimes less is more.

  1. This IS a great video. I saw it a few years ago and felt like gave me words to express what I already knew, we are trashing the planet. An important consideration for stuff is how durable it is. We know plastic lives forever, but we don’t necessarily use it to make products we are going to use forever. This is especially true with plastic packaging. So great for displaying products (it’s see thru) and molding into whatever custom shape you like. So catastrophic for the earth. I’ve started a blog to promote products that aren’t wrapped in plastic as a thank you to the companies that make them. If we are going to start anywhere, let’s begin by getting rid of plastic made to be “disposable”. (As if we could truly dispose of it). Here’s my blog if you are interested.

  2. Thanks for this Rainy….so true about plastic which is not always fantastic!
You’ve probly already read it, but Cradle to Cradle is such a great book about intelligent design (of products, not the silly de-evolution type!)
I’ll add your blog in my next posting!
